Thursday,July 11,
We got away in good time this morning and we headed
across Minnesota
The countryside is very similar to Ontario and
northern New Brunswick with lots of greens, trees, shrubs, and pastures.
At noon we were in Two Harbors. Here they have a
wonderful red brick lighthouse it was constructed in 1892 and is the oldest
operating light in Minnesota.
It is a bed and breakfast now. For a fee of three
dollars you could tour the light and the grounds and the keepers residence
Here we also got to see the Two Harbours East
Breakwater light., number 210.
We were there for almost 2 hours. I got a new lighthouse passport, and a Xmas tree ornament and some post cards.

Next we continued up highway 61 and arrived at the
lighthouse at Split Rock. This is almost iconic in that it is the place a lot
of people think of when they picture a lighthouse in their mind’s eye.
There was a guided tour and costumed animators in the keepers residence and the fog horn building and the tower. There were tour guides and a movie and a gift shop. I got more postcards and another Xmas ornament and of course a stamp for my new passport book.
