WOW!!
Where do I
start? This has been an unbelievable day.
Then we got our breakfast which was
free at the hotel. We met and chatted with a very nice couple, Tony and Nancy.
Then we
walked over to Win Dixie and picked up a bottle of wine and some flowers.
We got the
10:30 shuttle over to the Caribbean Princess. It went smoothly. We met Randy
and Janeen and Fred and \Mary at the waiting area. Then we are boarded the ship
and met for lunch. Lunch was fantastic. If this an indication of the food for this cruise we are going to need a treadmill for sure. YUM!! The best trout I have ever eaten.
After lunch
we returned to our room to get unpacked. I was shocked and pleased to see that
Kim had sent us flowers again. Such a sweetie.!
Our cabin
is about the most compact Balcony cabin ever. ( compact means small) The
balcony has metal sides and I an certain that has something to do with salt
spray during rough seas. But it will do. Next time we will not do a BF balcony.
Our luggage
had arrived and we began to put everything away. While unpacking we turned on
the television. It was then that we learned of what was unfolding at the
airport.
Shock and
sadness overcame us. We were glued to the TV and we could not believe what was
happening. It so easily could have been us caught in that mess. We usually fly
into FLL and for an instant I considered taking the red eye from Vancouver and
we would have arrived at that airport at that time. Because I was concerned
that winter weather could be a problem if we traveled the day we were cruising
I decided it would be better to go the day before even if it meant traveling to
Miami and taking the shuttle back to FLL. We came so close to being in that
chaos. We have a guardian Angel looking after us for certain.
So much
sadness so much pain and so many lives turned upside down.
We learned
that 110 to 120 of those people caught at the airport lock down were people who
should have been taking this cruise with us. Because of that our departure was
delayed. Princess decided to stay docked and wait until the police could allow
those people to leave the airport.
Dozens of
police cars escorted the passengers back to the ship. We stood on deck seven
and watched them arrive. It was a happy moment but a sad one as well when we
thought about what those passengers had been through.
Instead of
sailing at 4:30 we set sail at 9:35.
KUDOS to
Princess.
