L'anse au Claire to St. Anthony

Tuesday – L’Anse au Clair to St. Anthony  Breakfast and Dinner included Return to the island of Newfoundland and travel to L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, the first cultural discovery in the world recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn of the Vikings who settled here over a thousand years ago. Continue to your St. Anthony hotel for your overnight stay.

We are scheduled to stay at Haven Inn

This was an amazing session. Gerrard surprised us by wearing a NFLD tartan Kilt.
The day began with a bus ride to St.Anthony. When we arrived we were lead to a theatre where we viewed a very informative film about the migration of the human species and how the arrival of the Vikings in L'Ansa aux Meadoms completed the circle. Humans had not circled the globe. This is the reason why UNESCO made this area one of the first declared sites.
After the video we were met by our guide Kevin. He was very knowledgable and he was quite funny. He lead us around the various sites and kept us entertained with a few jokes. We were cold but he was wearing shorts and did not seem to mind the cold. When we arrived at the reconstruction he left us and as we entered the various rooms we were in the company of costumed interpretors who answered all of our questions. It was so very well done. I was impressed. They were almost as good as the presentors at Louisburg.

We boarded our bus and headed for St Anthony. Along the way we sighted a moose, close enough to get some good pictures.

But along the way we stopped at a place called Dark Tickle. These people produce and sell preserved made from the native berries of the island. Many are found only here and in Greenland and other northern countries.
WE were told all about the production and we ever watched ladies cleaning frozen berries and getting them ready to cook. They use partridge berries, squash berries, and bake apples sometimes called cloud berries.
At lunch earlier I had bought a jar of Bake Apple preserves and I paid ten dollars which I thought was a terrible price. The driver had told me that bake apples were gold in color because they were rare like gold, so I relented and bought some. At Dark Tickle a little fancier jar of the same spread was 26.00. I actually got a bargain... who knew!!

When I signed up for this tour I had to make certain to use the names the way they were on our passports. So I entered Ken's name as John Kendell Abramson.
Well whoever entered the paperwork listed hin as John Kendall and left out the surname that was on the next line. So everything is for Carolyn Abramson and John Kendall. Last night when we arrived at Haven Inn we discovered much to our surprise that we had a room with 2 twin beds. When we checked with others they had queen sized beds, one couple even had a King. We are wondering if the powers that be in St,Anthony felt we were not married and needed seperate beds...

Tomorrow we head for Cow Bay for the first of 2 nights.
