January 21st
I woke up a little
early today. There was a time change and I thought it was eight when it was
actually seven.
We went down to the dining room and had
breakfast with 3 couples. One was from Atlanta. One from Washington State near
Tacoma and one from Montana. The lady from Atlanta had actually emigrated to
Canada after the war. She came into Halifax and was sent to Winnipeg. We did
not learn how she ended up in the US. She ordered fruit as part of her
breakfast and we were all impressed with what she got. Wonderful!
The young couple from Montana are actually
from Newfoundland and Ontario, He is a pastor currently posted in BUTTE . They
have a work visa but hope to get green cards eventually. We had a good laugh
about the breakfast he ordered. It had refried beans and it looked quite
unappealing.
We did not learn much
about the other couple. It was a most pleasant breakfast and it was fun to meet
new people. We shared horror stories about downsizing with the Atlanta couple.
We left the dining
room and met Janeen just outside the door. She was also interested in learning
how many televisions were in Skywalkers Lounge……. That was the Wake Show
question for today. There are 14 by the way. Next we headed for the Princess
Theatre so we could attend the enrichment lecture on wales. Again she was very
good.
I worked on the blog
and at 11:30 went to the port lecture by Tiki Dave. He was speaking about the
Island of Maui. It was here that I learned positively that there has been
complete mayhem regarding shore excursions. Because many of the destinations
involve Federal facilities tours have been cancelled. I guess they are not
thinking this problem will be solved by Tuesday. At he beginning of the
presentation Dave advised people to go to the Shore Excursions office to learn
more.
He did a good job of
telling us all about Maui and gave us ideas about what we might do for our day.
At the end of the
lecture I went to the International Cafe and picked up 2 quiche for Ken and I
have for lunch. They were tasty and enough because we are going to the Crown
Grill for dinner tonight.
The reason forgoing to
the Crown Grill is to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. The Crown Grill is
one of the speciality dining rooms that you pay extra to attend. The cover
charge is 29 dollars per person. The food and the service are exceptional but
not so exceptional compared to the regular dining that a person would do it
often. Fred and Mary had vouchers from
their TA so they did not have to pay extra. They also had a voucher for a
bottle of champagne which they shared. It was delicious and we each got 2
glasses from that bottle.
Mary and Fred gave a gift
of a box of candy and Randy and Janeen had a card for us, It was a very nice
surprise.
After everyone had eaten the wait staff came
and sang Happy Birthday to Mary and Janeen and Randy and Happy Anniversary to
Ken and I. They brought 6 of those cakes to the table and there was no way we
could even consider cutting them. Our waiter wrapped them up for us and we now
have 2 of those cakes in our refrigerator.
After all of the wine,
the champagne and the rich food we were ready to call it a night. Dinner took
us 3 hours!!!!
For those who think
sea days can be boring I thought I would post the activities I could choose from
this afternoon.
