Santa Barbara is
America’s Rivera
White washed
houses dripping with bougainvillea, sapphire-blue water rolling up on a rocky
coast, palm lined beaches and an enviable climate. NO, this is not the French
or Italian Rivera. It is Santa Barbara, a quiet little town that’s big on jaw-dropping
scenery, Spanish and Moorish style buildings and unforgettable experiences.
Above is
the way Santa Barbara is described in the Port Guide that Princess gave us.
Santa
Barbara is home to more open space per capita than any other city in the
country. There are 53 parks throughout the city that provide the perfect
location for picnics, play or simple relaxation.
Oil was
discovered in the Santa Barbara area just before 1900; the world’s first off
shore oil drilling development soon sprouted up and is still active today.
Santa
Barbara was California’s first movie capital. In 1910, the American Film
Company opened Flying A Studio and at the time it was the largest studio of its
kind in the world. Before it closed its doors in 1920 it had produced over
12100 movies.
Santa
Barbara is home to 24,000 public trees.
