The Port of Long Beach is one of the largest shipping ports in the world.
In 1967, the city of Long Beach purchased Cunard’s former luxury cruise liner, Queen Mary to be docked in Long \Beach Harbor as a major tourism attraction and hotel.
In 1933 Long Beach was struck by a major earth quake. Downtown Long Beach was rebuilt in Art Deco style.
The first and only flight of Howard Hughes Spruce Goose, the world famous airplane, took off over Long Beach Harbor.
Included in the list of famous natives of Long Beach are:
Oscar-winning actor Nicholas Cage; golfer tiger Woods; tennis ledgent Billy Jean King; actress Bo Derrick and philanthropist Dorothy Chandler.
With 11,000 residents, Signal Hill is a city completely encircled by the city of Long \beach. Just 2 square miles, it is one of the world’s leading oil producers.
The Aquarium of the Pacific attracts more than 125 million visitors per year.
There are over 100 quality restaurants within an eight block radius in downtown Long Beach.
Long Beach was the first city in the US to staff a full time lifeguard service.
