21,1963 Attorney General Robert Kennedy ordered Alcatraz Federal Prison to
release its last inmates. Over 29 years there were 14 attempts by 36 prisoners,
but there are no documented successful escapes from Alcatraz.
Blue Jeans
San
Francisco is the birthplace of denim jeans. They were invented during the Gold
Rush for miners who needed comfortable strong pants.

At 4 o’clock
in the afternoon on August 2nd, 1873, Andres Smith Hallidie tested
the first cable car on Clay Street in San Francisco. This historic and unique
mode of transportation still is operating today.
