Discovery Family Pompei
See the artifacts, architecture and frescoes that hint of a good life
and ponder the force of nature that was Mt. Vesuvius. After boarding your
motorcoach you'll make the approximate 45-minute drive to the ruins of Pompeii.
Once you arrive in Pompeii, your
knowledgeable guide will escort you on a tour of the excavations that were once
buried beneath the ashes of Mt. Vesuvius. Your half-day excursion also includes
a visit to a cameo factory where you'll watch local artisans meticulously craft
beautiful works of art out of seashells and coral. Your tour concludes with a
30-minute drive back to Naples where your ship is docked awaiting your return
.Naples greeted us with a beautiful light house.
Our tour was just as described. Our guide was Guido and he was very good
at what he does. But boy did it rain. We were soaked inspite of being prepared
with umbrellas.
The visit to the Cameo factory was rather short on interest. They did
have beautiful jewelry for sale. The prices were high, probably worth the price to someone knowledgeable,
but not to me.
We also got to visit a place that specialized in Limonchello. That I
bought.
But the main event was the tour of Pompeii. The area is huge. I had some
previous knowledge of this place and its connection with Mt.Vesuvius. But what
I knew only scratched the surface. Their knowledge of city planning and their
Steam baths and the list goes on, just astounded me. You just have to Google it
and learn more.
Guido told us that they get 320 days of sun each year but this was
definitely not one of them.
It rained and rained and rained. We were sloshing through water all day
so we were happy to get back to the ship and get warm and dry.
