First Sea Day!!

January7th/2017
We slept very well and I was so relaxed that I wanted to just roll over and stay in bed. The sailing was very smooth. We could feel very slight movement and a bit of a shudder every now and then but it was just enough to make a person sleep soundly.

This is our eleventh wedding anniversary and it began with a very nice room service breakfast. When we opened our door we found balloons and a sign and a card.

But last night at dinner Mary and Janeen and I made plans to go to the pool on deck 15 to have a session of water aerobics. Mary will be the instructor; apparently she has been doing this for 23 years. I never have so we will see how I make out.
The group is  very aware that this is our wedding anniversary so with that in mind they have decided to treat us to dinner at the Crown Grill this evening. This is also formal night so it looks as if this will be a very busy fun day.
I went to Water Aerobics with Mary and I darn near froze. The water was very cool and the wind was blowing a gale. But I did muster up my courage and I got into the pool and I soon was jumping around like an old pro

. When we began visiting and moving around I rather enjoyed myself and it did not seem as cold. We left the pool and got into the hot tub. That was a real treat.
I will go again.
Then I came back to the room to change out of the wet clothes. Then I went down to the International Café and got a latte. Next I found my magnet. Actually they did not have the magnet but they did have the key ring so I will have Ken remove the loop for the key ring and add a magnet to the back. I will then have another ship magnet. I believe this is Princess ship number 14 .
Before we knew it we had to get ready for dinner. Janeen called and they invited us to come to their room for a drink before we all headed for the Crown Grill. It was a nice get together. It is obvious that their room is bigger than ours. I think they have a BB balcony. Did I mention that I will not get a BF balcony again??
At 5:20 we headed down to the grill. There are not enough superlatives to describe the service we received. It was amazing. The food was also amazing. Between the 6 of us we had several different choices and all of us were very pleased. I had scallop for my appetizer and it was mouth watering, the best ever. Fred had the lobster cake and it looked so good that next time I will give it a try. For the main course the group made different choices, lamb, and pork and lobster and beef and sea bass all of which were great. The dessert chosen by most was the item called the chef’s selection. It was actually a selection of 4 different samples. They did not disappoint.

Because it was our anniversary they brought a cake and sang Happy Anniversary. We blew out the candle and cut the cake but we could not eat it.

They are bringing it to our table tonight. All of us will enjoy it then. WOW what a great meal it was and what a grand anniversary gift it was..
Ken and I went to our room and changed out of formal attire and went to the Princess Theatre. The show was Piano Man and as usual it did not disappoint. We are always amazed by the high energy of the singers and dancers.

We next went to Horizon court for a drink, both of us was thirsty. I had skim milk and my pills and Ken had water. We also had some fresh fruit. By now it was about eleven o’clock so we called it a day and a night and went to bed.
What an amazing anniversary celebration it was!!
Tomorrow is another sea day, Yeah!!

Unimaginable

WOW!!
Where do I start? This has been an unbelievable day.
We slept well last night and woke up around 7:30.

Then we got our breakfast which was free at the hotel. We met and chatted with a very nice couple, Tony and Nancy.
Then we walked over to Win Dixie and picked up a bottle of wine and some flowers.
We got the 10:30 shuttle over to the Caribbean Princess. It went smoothly. We met Randy and Janeen and Fred and \Mary at the waiting area. Then we are boarded the ship and met for lunch. Lunch was fantastic. If this an indication of the food for this cruise we are going to need a treadmill for sure. YUM!! The best trout I have ever eaten.

After lunch we returned to our room to get unpacked. I was shocked and pleased to see that Kim had sent us flowers again. Such a sweetie.!

Our cabin is about the most compact Balcony cabin ever. ( compact means small) The balcony has metal sides and I an certain that has something to do with salt spray during rough seas. But it will do. Next time we will not do a BF balcony.

Our luggage had arrived and we began to put everything away. While unpacking we turned on the television. It was then that we learned of what was unfolding at the airport.
Shock and sadness overcame us. We were glued to the TV and we could not believe what was happening. It so easily could have been us caught in that mess. We usually fly into FLL and for an instant I considered taking the red eye from Vancouver and we would have arrived at that airport at that time. Because I was concerned that winter weather could be a problem if we traveled the day we were cruising I decided it would be better to go the day before even if it meant traveling to Miami and taking the shuttle back to FLL. We came so close to being in that chaos. We have a guardian Angel looking after us for certain.

So much sadness so much pain and so many lives turned upside down.
We learned that 110 to 120 of those people caught at the airport lock down were people who should have been taking this cruise with us. Because of that our departure was delayed. Princess decided to stay docked and wait until the police could allow those people to leave the airport.
Dozens of police cars escorted the passengers back to the ship. We stood on deck seven and watched them arrive. It was a happy moment but a sad one as well when we thought about what those passengers had been through.

Instead of sailing at 4:30 we set sail at 9:35.

KUDOS to Princess.

It Cant be too soon!!!

Warm weather and warm water will be so welcomed.
We feel sorry for friends and neighbours, but not sorry enough to change places with them.

Our Adventure Begins

We made the decision on what to wear. We decided to go with layered summer clothes. So we each wore summer jackets that reversed and had hoods. Add a tee and a jacket under the outside jacket that has a hood. Complete the picture with a scarf and gloves. That will make it warm enough for Vancouver. Remove one jacket, scarf and gloves and we will be ready for Fort Lauderdale.

I also decided it was just as well to leave the remaining gifts under the tree. We removed all of the timers from the light displays and closed the blinds. Perhaps when we get back I will just call it a Valentine Tree
Ken spent some time getting the snow off of the roof of the Jeep. Then away we went.

Our first stop was Delestre Avenue in Coquitlam to visit our friend Pat Kennard. We found her in pretty good health, in excellent spirits and happy to see us. We visited with her and a few of her friends and had a grand couple of hours.

Then back on the road. The traffic was flowing smoothly and we had no problem getting to eighteenth . We left a shopping bag on the back step and an envelope and car keys in the mail slot. The jeep will be there while we are on our vacation.

We called Yellow Cab and before we knew it we were safely tucked in at the Abercorn  Best Western Plus . The junior hockey tournament was on television so Ken was pleased.

We had to have supper and we decided to go to the Chinese Food Place associated with this Hotel. It is named the Shanghai Wonderful Restaurant. We knew right away that we had come to a good place because all except 4 of the customers were Asian. We were not that hungry and because we know the portions are HUGE in Chinese Food places we asked for the Dinner for One to share. We each had an egg roll and we skipped the soup. When the main course was served we wondered just how one person could consume that much food. We both ate till we were stuffed!!
The ginger beef and broccoli was so tasty and the chow Mein was fantastic. I don't know how they did the shrimp but it was the most tasty I have ever eaten.

Then we took the 2 minute stroll back to our room. When the phone rings at 4:30 AM we will be dragging ourselves out of bed.

YVR here we come!

Packing

We are busy packing today.
We have never travelled this close after Christmas before and this part of  BC does not usually have this kind of weather. Dam it is cold!!! Pretty but cold!!!

I have decided that there is no way we can have the decorations put away before tomorrow so we are going to just close the blinds and take everything down and pack it away when we get back.
Should I leave the gifts under the tree??

Do I wear my winter boots and winter coat into the city? Do I drag them all of the way to Florida and the Caribbean? I will be very cold in Vancouver on the fifth if I wear my summer things.
I will be very hot on the plane and in Florida if I wear my winter things. Just how heavy will my suitcase be if it contains a winter coat and winter boots??

What a wonderful problem to have... we are so lucky.
Stay tuned and I will let you know what we decided!!
