We left Cape Ann around nine and it was a beautiful morning.
I decided to
just enjoy the dive and the scenery,
I made no hats
at all.
We just sang with Benda,(Lee);Don and Phil (Everly)
and Roy (Obitson). And we tried to see who saw the palindromic numbers on the plates and the mile makers first.
We traveled through Massachusetts and Connecticut and
New York and into Pennsylvania. We spent the night at a Pilot truck stop. It
was great, not noisy and it cooled off nicely.
The next day was almost the same.
We got an early start but this time I made two hats.
By now we are beginning to cross the county and we are passing fields of corn
and crop we do not recognize, It turned out to be “soy beans”. For the next
couple of days we dive past miles and miles and aces and aces of corn and soy
beans. I could not imagine that there would be so much of the same crop. We
passed through Pennsylvania and Ohio and into Indiana.
We spent Sunday at a Wal-mart in Decatur. It was a
beautiful sunset
and so before we called it a night we went for a walk and we
saw something different for a parking lot. They have a fairly large Mennonite
population and so they need a special place for the horses and carriages and of
course a way to take care of the manure.
Now we are getting into flat land with few trees but
still are seeing corn. There is a wonderful wild sunflower filling the ditches.
Last night we stayed in Oxford, Iowa. The campground was
called Sleepy Hollow and it was so very pretty. But the sites were very slanted. It took Ken a couple of tries to
find one that might work but even with that we had the trailer up on three boards.
They said they had WiFi but it did not work.:-(
We did laundry and showered and generally recovered from
a couple of hard days of traveling. We had hoped to use the pool but we were
late arriving and the pool was closed. But the grounds were very beautiful.
At one of the rest stops in Iowa there was a U-Haul truck
there and on the side was a story about Canada and the Underground railroad. It
made me proud to see this.
You might wonder how an RV stop is chosen. Well there
are several things we look at and they might differ from night to night.
Sometimes it has to do with location, especially if we
want to hunt out lighthouses.
Sometimes it might be because of what they offer, do
we want to do laundry or do we want to relax by the pool and do they have WiFi?
And it may be whether or not they accept our
membership cards such as Good Sam or Passport America or AAA.
Well tonight we are in Waco, Nebraska and we chose
this campground, The Double Nickel, because it was a Passport America and
because it had a nice big pool.
NOT, it is no longer a Passport America and they have
drained the pool already!! But as you can tell the WiFi works great.
This is a very wide state and we have another 360
miles to go before we get into Wyoming. So we will be on our way early in the
morning, hopefully before it gets too hot.
