April 20th

We embark today. We are in cabin E-304. It is a balcony room on Emerald deck ( deck 8)
We like the room and we love the flowers we got from Kim.

Because of the horror of a plane trip I am absolutely exhausted and I am on my way to bed. Tomorrow afternoon I will try to catch you up on all of the happenings and send pictures. Just too tired right now.

Cruise 48 and 49

This is really only one cruise but because people can embark in LA it is counted as 2 credits. That is a good thing. It actually works out to be fair because we have a 28 day cruise in January and it will only get one credit. Some are long and some are short.

The cruise is a trip from Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver, making our 4th full transit of the Panama Canal. The first three were at a time when the new canal was under construction.
The expansion is complete and we are hoping to see the new canal

Here is the itinerary:
The itinerary includes 3 formal nights and 15 smart casual nights.

Cruise Itinerary Map

April 19th

This is our flying day.
We spend the night at the Best Western on State Street.

It is a basic clean place with near by shopping for wine and flowers. They also have transport to the ship so it is a good choice.

Because of the time of the year the prices are higher than we have paid on other occasions but it is better to fly the day before and stay over night rather than take a chance on problems with the flight making you wave good bye to the ship as it leaves port.

As usual the shuttle did not arrive and we had waited for him. We ended up getting a cab and when we finally turned off the lights and crawled into bed it was 5:03.
This would be a very short night. Hardly worth the price of the hotel.

Princess E-Z air

We decided to give Princess E-Z Air. The price was very good. I kept checking with other airlines and no one could beat Princess. They have a policy that you could cancel if you found a better deal. We did not cancel.

Flying from West to East is always a pain because you arrive so late. It will be almost midnight by the time we get to Fort Lauderdale. But we have the advantage of not leaving too early . Our plane does not leave until 12:45.

Here is our schedule:
Flight Schedule
Flight Details For: All Passengers Conf. #: MENHMT
Date Airline Flight From / To Depart Arrive Date Seats Location
4/19/2019 United Airlines 464 Vancouver (YVR) 12:25 PM
Denver, CO (DEN)   4:20 PM 4/19/2019
4/19/2019 United Airlines 1812 Denver, CO (DEN) 5:31 PM
Ft Lauderdale, FL (FLL)   11:20 PM 4/19/2019

We will drive into Vancouver and leave the vehicle at Kerri's and get a cab to the airport.

Our cruise ends in Vancouver so we will just pick up the luggage and head back to Kerri's

That was the plan but we were delayed and were 4 hours late arriving in FLL.

Flying Home

This cruise has come to an end entirely too quickly.

Our flight from Fort Lauderdale does not leave until 2:15 so we can not worry about missing our flight. The flight is 6 hours and 3 minutes long with a layover in Calgary. Unfortunately the layover is 3 hours and 12 minutes. The flight to Vancouver is only 1 hour and 33 minutes. We are scheduled to arrive in Vancouver at 10:03 local time. We will get a cab to Kerri's and then drive home so we will not get to bed until after one if we are lucky.  That will be four Fort Lauderdale time so it will be a very long very exhausting day.

As we left the room I took a picture of our flowers. This is the best they have ever lasted.

Our wake up call was for 7 but we were awake at 6:30. We got dressed and left the room for Freddie. We left his tip on the desk. We had breakfast in the dining room since time was not an issue.

The elites were to wait in Princess Live. It was very comfortable and the disembarkation went quickly and quietly.

We were off of the ship collecting our luggage at 9:30 , just as the schedule said we should be.

Once we got our luggage we were directed to what would be a very full bus.

Arriving at the Fort Lauderdale airport.

Airport

There has been lots of improvements at the Calgary airport. They have a shuttle that will carry you from one terminal to the other. We came in at 2 and had to leave on A. It would have been at lest a 15 minute walk if we did not avail ourselves of the shuttle ( at least that is what the sign said)

Everything was a bit late and when we arrived in Calgary it was cold and snowy.
We had no trouble getting out luggage although Ken's bag was almost last. We headed out and got a taxi right away. The roads were fine and our trip home went quickly.

When we arrived hone after being awake for 21 hours it was not long before we were in bed, trying to adjust to a still bed.

Waiting for us , on our front step was a gift bag from our friends.
A welcome home care package of snowdrops, raisin scones and homemade blueberry preserves.
Breakfast!!

Thank you Bob and Janet!! You are appreciated.

Cruises number 46 and 47 have come to an end.
Cruise 48 and 49 will begin on April 30.

Last Day of our cruise

February 1st

This was our last sea day and a day for packing and finishing things undone.

We had lunch with Vickie and Bernie and we forgot to take a picture. We get so busy visiting that we forget photos.

I roamed the ship taking pictures for the book. This was the parade of the baked Alaskan

I went to what I thought was a lecture on Diabetes. It was a come on to buy Chinese Herbs.

We had dinner with our friends and said our good byes and wished everyone safe travels.

To end the day I watched “Crazy Rich Asians “ on the stateroom TV.

Tomorrow we fly home.

January 31st

Turks and Caicos

Grand Turk,
Today is our day in Grand Turk. We do not have an excursion and the plan is to just have a beach day.

We had a casual breakfast and then got ready to go to shore.
We left the ship with Fred and Mary and Janeen around 10:30

We were lead to believe that the lounges and umbrellas were rented for 25 dollars. So we did not go there in the beginning. We explored the beach to the right of the dock but the shore was rocky. There was a whale sculpture .

We decided to go to the beach on the left because it was sandy and soft.
There is a Margriettaville there. We had a look but did not want a drink.

I overheard a lady say that the green umbrella chairs were free to passengers of the Royal Princess, so we found a pair of chairs and enjoyed our time in the water. The water was not cold and there was a lovely breeze, a perfect combination.

After an hour I headed back because I did not want more sunburn. My timing was bad. I browsed around the craft market and then entered the cruise terminal.

There was a large crowd inside the building and the doors were closed. The Cardinal Breeze had arrived and they did not want passengers on the dock while the ship was being tied up.

We only had to wait for about 15 minutes. Then the doors were opened and the throng headed for the Royal Princess. There were crowds of people going in both directions. The Carnival people were getting off of their ship and the Princess people were headed back to their ship.

This is formal night and the Captain's circle is happening. Ken and I went to dinner and then left early to take in the Captain's party.

I had arranged to introduce myself to Matt O. He wanted the meet the Carolyn who was putting in the quotes. It was fun to chat with him.

After the party we returned to our room and called it a night.

Tomorrow is the last day of the cruise. A sea day!!!
